Winters are mostly brown in Appalachia

Winter in Appalachia isn't the white, snow covered scene you would imagine. Instead, it's mostly shades of brown like this one. A good fire in the stove makes the long winter days more bearable. There are some homes deep in the hollers that sunshine will not touch for a couple of months. Fortunately for these folksin Scott County, Virginia that isn't the case.
